Mustangs host largest attended meet of 2021 with the BC Athletics Events Group Challenge for Sprints and Jumps

Head Coach Andrew Lenton was pleased with the attendance of over 315 athletes over two days held at MacLeod Athletics Park. “It provided a great atmosphere for the athletes and not surprisingly we saw many great performances from ages U16 and up.”The Mustangs are preparing to host the 2022 National Track and Field Championships so this was a chance to assess their readiness and identify any outstanding issues. “Hosting a major championship will be a team effort that will require contributions from several partners including the Township of Langley, BC Athletics, and volunteers from the Mustangs.

Club Records Falling As Athletes Make Up For Lost Time

With the recent changes to Covid restrictions on sports, the track community is seeing a return to normal for competitions in the Lower Mainland.

On June 30, the Mustangs hosted their 6th track meet in two months and it was a special occasion as the first opportunity to invite athletes from other clubs to compete. The response was big with over 40 high school and post-secondary athletes from numerous clubs attending the meet.  Coach Lenton was happy with the response from other clubs and with his athletes’ performances: “We have seen a steady improvement in our athletes’ competition level, numerous club records being set in all age groups, and first-year athletes successfully navigating the steep learning curve of competition after so many months of just training.”
