High jumper Aiden Grout has been selected to the U18 National Team to compete at the 2019 NACAC U18 being held in Querétaro, Mexico

​High jumper Aiden Grout has been selected to the U18 National Team to compete at the 2019 NACAC U18 being held in Querétaro, Mexico, from July 5-7. The team, comprised of the 25 best athletes from across Canada will compete against athletes from 31 different countries across North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. Grout is currently the #1 ranked high jumper for U18 and U20 in Canada coming off an impressive 2.09m jump to win the BC High School Championships last month. Coach Kevin Harrison is excited to see what Grout will do on the international stage: “Aiden has demonstrated consistency in his performance, strong work ethic in practice, and a competitive drive that will be key to continued success this season. He has come very far in the last 12 months, but he certainly isn’t done yet.” Next up for Grout is the Harry Jerome Invitational at Swanguard Stadium in Burnaby on June 20 where he will face a strong field of mostly Canadian jumpers including Django Lovett (2.30m) and Mike Mason (2.31m).

Mustangs Zach and Tate Wyatt selected to represent Canada at Pan American U20 Championships

Congratulations to Mustangs Tate and Zach Wyatt who were recently selected for the U20 National Team at to represent Canada at the 2019 Pan American U20 Championships being held in San José, Costa Rica, from July 19-21, at National Stadium. The biennial track and field competition will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2019 and will feature athletes from 31 different countries across the Americas. The Wyatt brothers, who easily surpassed the team standard 9:32.92 for the 3000m Steeplechase, are coming off a successful freshman season at the University of Memphis where they competed on the varsity cross country and track and field teams in the American Athletic Conference.

Mustangs JD’s perform well at the Jesse Bent Memorial Meet

The Langley Mustangs Track and Field Association participated at the 2019 Annual Jesse Bent Memorial Meet on Saturday June 8th and Sunday June 9th.

The Langley Mustangs had an excellent meet earning 14 gold medals, 9 silver medals and 8 bronze medals!

At least two Mustangs achieved personal best results this weekend. Noah Louwerse and Jacob Vanderhorst both achieved personal best results in long jump with Jacob earning a silver medal for the event.  Noah Louwerse along with Bernardo Sada hit standard in 1200m and Miles Hayden hit standard in 1000m.

The meet was hosted by the Coquitlam Cheetahs Track and Field Association at Percy Perry Stadium. The stadium includes a Mondo track surface with areas for long jump, triple jump, high jump and pole vault with separate areas for discus, hammer, shot put and a polyflex synthetic rubberized track surface for javelin.  ​

Mustangs Battle the Heat at the 2019 BC High School Track & Field Championships

Members of the Langley Mustangs Track Club competed well in the hot Okanagan conditions in Kelowna at the BC High School Track and Field Championships held May 30 to June 1. There were several medallists and outstanding performances over the three day competition which caps the high school season. Gold medal performances were turned in by Ian Vandergugten in the Senior Boys 110m hurdles and Aiden Grout and Nolan McEachern in the Senior and Junior Boys high jump. Head Coach Andrew Lenton was impressed by the Mustangs’ performances in this high calibre meet: “The competition and depth was the best its been in several years. For so many of our athletes to finish in the top 8 was a major accomplishment. Now we are looking to build on this succcess as we move into the club season and target provincial and national level competitions.”
