Langley Mustangs Track and Field Club has managed to make it through the COVID-19 pandemic by being “agile,” as club president Kevin Harrison put it.
“Because of COVID, we had to be kind of flexible,” Harrison told the Langley Advance Times.
As of Saturday, Feb. 20, Harrison estimated membership numbers were almost back to pre-COVID levels, thanks to a creative approach that has seen the club introduce new off season training for junior development and high school aged athletes, and may see them holding smaller training sessions, more often, at Langley tracks other than McLeod Athletic Park (MAP), their home base.

On October 24, 2020, our Mustangs attended the Valley Cross Country Meet. It was cold and windy. However, for the runners it couldn’t be any better, because for approximately 10 minutes life was normal.
“It was exciting for competitors and coaches to have an opportunity to compete during this time of Covid restrictions”, as noted by Coach Andrew Lenton.
The Valley Royals did a great job adapting the event to the Phase 3 restrictions and provided the runners with a safe and fun competition.
Per Coach Andrew, “The Mustangs had a strong showing at the event with top finishes in elementary, high school and senior categories.”
The day started with 3 of our Grade 4/5 girls finishing in the top 5 and our Mustangs continued to compete well throughout the day.
Thank you coaches and runners for a strange but great 2020 season!
McLeod Renovations are complete. We look forward to being able to train again at this facility in the near future.
